type:glacier added for glacier coordinates
Following WT:GEO#type:waterbody for rivers, glaciers, WP:GEO#type:T now includes "type:glacier" instead of "type:waterbody" for glaciers. "type:waterbody" is mainly used for lakes. Some of the glaciers were using "type:landmark". Coordinates will be updated to include this. Sample coordinates:
- {{coor at dms|46|26|32|N|8|04|38|E|region:CH-VS_type:glacier}}
which would render on Aletsch Glacier as:
and display coordinates on the top corner of the page. -- User:Docu
Article alerts
This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Assessment request - Brenva Glacier
If an editor has a moment, I'd welcome a quality assessment for a new page I've created on the Brenva Glacier in Italy, or any suggestions for improvements, for that matter. Many thanks, Nick Moyes (talk) 11:44, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
A new newsletter directory is out!
A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Huge collection of photos now available
Hey everybody. I've just finished uploading a large collection of aerial photos of glaciers to Commons. The photos span about 1950-1980 and are of glaciers throughout the western United States (especially Alaska). They are now available for use illustrating articles, and we could also use some help sorting them into categories. Here they are: commons:Category:Images from the Glaciers and Landforms Photograph Collection. Thanks! – BMacZero (🗩) 16:02, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
Request for help Good Article Review
I've just reviewed the lovely article about the Quelccaya Ice Cap by @Jo-Jo Eumerus: and it's almost ready to be passed. However, the article might contain some jargon which would not make it pass some of the first criterion: Wikipedia:Make technical articles understandable. For sections 2, 3 and 7 I have not enough knowledge to know whether the jargon in it is too much or not. Could somebody else have a look? Femke Nijsse (talk) 08:02, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
Request for input on a featured article nomination
Greetings, I have nominated Coropuna for a featured article nomination. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. The instructions for the review process are here. Thanks in advance for any comments. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 05:41, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Help needed with Commons category
I'm attempting to expand category tree integration on Commons of categories for Alaska glaciers. The category https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Foster_Glacier_(Alaska) was created in June 2018 and I found no clear information as to its exact location. The content in that category consists of several photos taken in the late 1890s by Eric A. Hegg describing the glacier as being near Skagway. The article Taku Glacier says that it was known as Foster Glacier at the time. A search at USGS also turned up a Foster Glacier in the Yukon alongside the watershed of the Donjek River. Given the uncertainty about the Canada-U.S. border at the time and the ongoing Klondike Gold Rush, it's anyone's guess as to which of the two glaciers it really is. Any help is straightening this out would be appreciated. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 11:44, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- RadioKAOS Taking a stab at this: I know there is a Mount Foster north of Skagway. I believe a portion of the northern slope of the mountain is currently in Canada while the peak and the southern slope and most of the east and west slope is located in Alaska. You are correct in that the area in question has been officially and unofficially switched between countries several times. I'll try to reach out to those I know in the area and see if anything rings true with them but I'm willing to bet it has something to do with a glacier in the vicinity of this mountain that is no longer recognized due to its extreme location. --ARoseWolf (Talk) 15:56, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
