Food additives codes redirect to chemical compounds instead of E number articleThere are quite a lot of food additive redirects around, for instance or E330 (citric acid) or E948 (oxygen). Right now, those I sampled redirect to the article for the chemical compound, where the use is not mentioned (in the case of oxygen for instance, it would be fairly hard to work into the lead). In my opinion that violates the principle of least astonishment in redirects. A better idea would be to redirect every Exxx to the correct subsection in E number: for instance E948 would go to E_number#E900–E999_(glazing_agents,_gases_and_sweeteners). Do you agree/disagree? This page is not close to being complete being there's only one section which is the overall summary. This gives me plenty of room to add more sections which equates more information. This makes my job easier versus an article that's very detailed which means its close to completion. Smalls12 (talk) 20:24, 29 April 2020 (UTC) Deep pan pizza — a bit of a messThere's an article titled Deep Pan Pizza on a defunct British restaurant chain, but you can't easily reach it by searching because of this redirection which instead throws you into a section in the article on Chicago pizza. On the talk page of that article (or, just to make it even messier, on the old talk page of that article before it was renamed), here, some people are apparently not happy about that, arguing that Chicago-style is a very specific pizza type, and neither 'deep pan pizza' nor 'deep dish pizza' in a generic sense shouldn't redirect to it, but both currently do. Meanwhile, generic pan pizza has its own (short) standalone article. To me this whole situation looks like a mess (and there may be even more to it, I haven't done any thorough searching) that needs to be sorted out, but I wasn't sure how. I reckon a disambiguation page for 'deep pan pizza' would be a good start, to replace the current redirect, with links to the British company and to 'pan pizza' and possibly also to 'Chicago-style pizza'. But whether the said articles should otherwise be merged, or linked with hatnotes or see-alsos, or whether there are other articles to consider as part of this, I don't know. I have recently discovered that the page Kettle corn is completely unsourced. I'd really like to improve it. Of course, the difficulty is finding sources. Simply searching for history of kettle corn just produces a lot of companies that have blog posts about the history, with no sources. So how can I find some better historical sources for this page? I understand that it's difficult to find the exact origin of foods, and that's fine. But I'd really like to improve the page. I don't normally work in food-related pages, so I'm a little out of my depth. Really would appreciate any advice. I think it's almost ready to publish (I still need to write the lead though). I haven't written any food pages before. Is "Mormon foodways" okay as a title? It's not different enough from midwestern food to be its own cuisine, according to my colleague in Mormon folklore. A recent book on the subject of Utah foods called it "Utah food traditions." Right now I'm also thinking I should get rid of the "bread" section and put it under "Utah pioneers - processing". Some information on the page could be appropriate on Rocky Mountain cuisine, a page which is currently focused on the Canadian rocky mountain cuisine. What are your thoughts? Template:WikiProject Food and drink cannot be used inside Template:WikiProject banner shell with some parametersIt results in the page landing in Category:Pages where expansion depth is exceeded. You can see this in this old revision of Talk:Mascarpone, which was reverted with the next edit. The call to {{WikiProject Food and drink}} looks like this: Even without the "shell" it has a template expansion depth of 37, which is right up against the limit of 40, as shown in the source-code view of the "old revision" link above. Search for Highest expansion depth: 37/40 to find the parser profiling data. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:13, 8 January 2021 (UTC) |
