The {{WikiProject Film}} project banner template should be added (never subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner.

Basic usage

An article's quality assessment is generated from the |class= parameter in the {{WikiProject Film}} project banner on its talk page:

The following values may be used for the |class= parameter to describe the quality of the article (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Assessment#Film grading scheme for assessment criteria):

|class=FA (for featured articles only; adds articles to Category:FA-Class film articles		FA
|class=GA (for good articles only; adds articles to Category:GA-Class film articles		GA
|class=B adds articles to Category:B-Class film articles if they meet the B-Class criteria		B
|class=C adds articles to Category:C-Class film articles		C
|class=Start adds articles to Category:Start-Class film articles		Start
|class=Stub adds articles to Category:Stub-Class film articles		Stub
|class=FL for featured lists only; adds articles to Category:FL-Class film articles		FL
|class=List adds articles to Category:List-Class film articles		List
|class=SIA for set index articles; adds articles to Category:SIA-Class film articles		SIA
|class=Disambig for disambiguation pages; adds pages to Category:Disambig-Class film articles		Disambig

By default, any articles with an empty |class= parameter are added to Category:Unassessed film articles.

For redirects and other pages that are not articles, the class will be set automatically. However, the |class= parameter may still be set manually using the following values:

Optional parameters

General

• listas – a sortkey to produce a correct ordering of pages within a category, e.g. for The Fifth Element set |listas=Fifth Element, The
• needs-image - set |needs-image=yes if the article needs an image, such as a poster or on-set photo
• needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox, e.g. {{Infobox film}}

National and Regional Task forces

• American – set |American=yes if the article is supported by the American cinema task force
• Argentine – set |Argentine=yes if the article is supported by the Argentine cinema task force
• Australian – set |Australian=yes if the article is supported by the Australian cinema task force
• Baltic – set |Baltic=yes if the article is supported by the Baltic cinema task force
• British – set |British=yes if the article is supported by the British cinema task force
• Canadian – set |Canadian=yes if the article is supported by the Canadian cinema task force
• Chinese – set |Chinese=yes if the article is supported by the Chinese cinema task force
• French – set |French=yes if the article is supported by the French cinema task force
• German – set |German=yes if the article is supported by the German cinema task force

• Filmmaking – set |Filmmaking=yes if the article is supported by the Filmmaking task force
• Silent – set |Silent=yes if the article is supported by the Silent films task force

Genre Task forces

• Animated – set |Animated=yes if the article is supported by the Animated films task force
• Christian – set |Christian=yes if the article is supported by the Christian films task force
• Comics – set |Comics=yes if the article is supported by the Comic book films task force
• Documentary – set |Documentary=yes if the article is supported by the Documentary films task force
• War – set |War=yes if the article is supported by the War films task force

B-Class checklist (only for articles rated Stub-Class, Start-Class, C-Class or B-Class—see the assessment department for more details)

• b1 – set |b1=yes if the article meets criterion #1 for B-Class status; set |b1=no if it does not
• b2 – set |b2=yes if the article meets criterion #2 for B-Class status; set |b2=no if it does not
• b3 – set |b3=yes if the article meets criterion #3 for B-Class status; set |b3=no if it does not
• b4 – set |b4=yes if the article meets criterion #4 for B-Class status; set |b4=no if it does not
• b5 – set |b5=yes if the article meets criterion #5 for B-Class status; set |b5=no if it does not

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
