The Volkswagen T-Cross is a subcompact crossover SUV manufactured by the German automaker Volkswagen. It is based on the MQB platform, and was officially launched in April 2019. The car is positioned below the T-Roc, making it the smallest SUV model from Volkswagen.
A first preview of an SUV model in the format of Volkswagen Polo was presented at Geneva Motor Show in March 2016 as the concept car VW T-Cross Breeze. This vehicle is in contrast to the production version of a four seater convertible with fabric top. Externally, it resembles the two years earlier presented VW T-Roc Concept. The T-Cross Breeze is 4.13 meters long, 1.80 meters wide and 1.56 meters high.
The concept vehicle is powered by a one litre TSI engine with 81 kW (110 horsepower) and 175 Nm of torque. At 100 km/h, the 1250 kg T-Cross Breeze is expected to accelerate in 10.3 seconds, the maximum speed being 188 km/h. The standard consumption should be 5.0 litres per 100 km.
The production vehicle was officially launched on 25 October 2018, in Amsterdam, Shanghai and São Paulo and has been available since then as a '1st Edition'. From 19 April 2019, the T-Cross is to be delivered. For the European market, the SUV is built together with the Volkswagen Polo at Volkswagen Navarra S.A. in Pamplona, Spain.
Longer wheelbase versions
In addition, the model is produced in China and Brazil, with a modified length of 4.20 m and a longer wheelbase of 2.65 m, improving interior space and cargo volume. These models also have different front fascias and steering wheels from the variant sold in Europe.
The model built in Brazil is exported to Mexico with an atmospheric 1.6 litre model, able to generate 82.0 kW (110 hp) and 114 lb ft, associated with the Tiptronic six speed automatic transmission. It is be the second car in Volkswagen's Mexican lineup to use the all new modular MQB A0 platform (the first in the brand being the Virtus), also used on the SEAT Arona and Ibiza, and the Volkswagen Virtus, Polo, and Tarok.
It also comes with a 6.5" Compotision Media and Apple CarPlay infotainment system, six airbags, ABS brakes and electronic stability control, and automatic post collision braking will be available in all versions. It obtained a five star rating by Latin NCAP. It arrived to the market in Mexico in 17 September 2019. Prices come between MXN$344,000 and MXN$459,990.
The trims range in the United Kingdom from the entry level S, the mid range SE, the higher range SEL and the range topping R Line. The special "First Edition" trim is limited to 250 units.
