Fourth empire was the British
Where did you get the idea that the fourth empire was the British one? For what I know these are the four Empires: 1. Babilon 2. Medo-Persian 3. Greece 4. Rome I am not sure about them, I also remember something like 1.Greece 2.Rome 3Cristianity 4.Europe but i never, never heard nothing about Britain. Do you have sources, preferably portuguese? Here is a strophe of Pessoa:
Greece, Rome, Christianity,
Europe - the four go
To where all age goes.
Who wants to live the truth
For which Don Sebastian died?
and the explenation: "Grécia, Roma, Cristandade, Europa"- os quatro impérios que Pessoa pensava ajustarem-se ao sonho do rei assírio. (the four empires that pessoa thought that fit to the assirian king dream)
this is absolutely ridiculous! the other four are: greece, rome, critianity and europe! you just that have to read the "fifth empire" poem to get that you moron.
The four Empires that preceeded the Fifth are not clear. Pessoa uses a list, whereas António Vieira uses others, and modernly even others are used. The pessoan view is usually the Greece, Rome, Christianity and Europe, but given that this page is about the concept of Fifth Empire unto itself -- not only Pessoa's view -- it couldn't hurt, and would even most likely be beneficial, to include other alternatives. The Fifth Empire is also related to the (spiritual) Empire of the Holy Ghost, an 1000 years old notion that still lives in popular manifestation in Penedo/Sintra, Tomar (Festa dos Tabuleiros), many other places specially in the Azores. The notion, even though it's farfetched, isn't well accepted in the Catholic Church. I have no time to deleve on this compex matter, sorry, but you'll find abundant (paper) bibliography when you look into it. --Xyzt1234 20:46, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Factual accuracy and single source
Lots of claims all based on a single source. Single source seems to be an issue in many Portguese and Brazil articles.Tamsier (talk) 10:29, 1 August 2012 (UTC) EDIT - Looked in corresponding French and Port article no source at all. Will raise this with the French team.Tamsier (talk) 10:33, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
