Perth, Western Australia
|Population||5,659 (2006 census)|
|Location||23 km (14 mi) from Perth|
|LGA(s)||City of Cockburn|
The suburb's ame was proposed by Taylor Woodrow Homes Builders and the City of Cockburn in March 1982 after a previous suggestion (Oxley) had been rejected because of duplication. It is situated to the south of North Lake, hence the name. The suburb name was approved in August 1982.
The suburb contains two schools: South Lake Primary School and Lakeland Senior High School.
The South Lake Leisure Centre was located on South Lake Drive, adjacent to Lakeland Senior High School. The Centre has been demolished and is being replaced in 2019 with a field hockey facility. The pools, aquatic facilities and gymnasium have been reproduced at the nearby ARC (Aquatic Recreation Centre) at Cockburn Central.
