A flush edit is a variant of Help:Dummy edit. Unlike a dummy edit, which does not change the page but has a summary, flush edits do not change the page but also contain no summary (or contains only an explanation such the text "flush" or linking to this page).
This is usually done to avoid vandals and long-term abusers who either:
- Make constructive changes to the page that should not be reverted
- Make a bad edit and then self-revert
- Are the only contributor to the page
- Any other reason why rollbacking the edit would be impossible or unsuitable
It can be seen as problematic and alarming when a known vandal has the current version of the page, even when there is nothing to do, and a "flush edit" may be used, which does not change the page, but is created to avoid the last user being marked as (current).
