Goodmayes railway station is on the Great Eastern Main Line serving the district of Goodmayes in the London Borough of Redbridge, east London. It is 9 miles 23 chains (14.9 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Seven Kings and Chadwell Heath. Its three-letter station code is GMY and it is in Travelcard Zone 4.
The station was opened in 1901 by the Great Eastern Railway. It is currently managed by TfL Rail. Train services call at Goodmayes as part of the Shenfield-Liverpool Street stopping "metro" service. In the future the TfL Rail service will be re-branded as the Elizabeth line as part of the Crossrail project. Eventually, the Elizabeth line service will be extended beyond Liverpool Street to Paddington and onwards to Reading and Heathrow Airport.
Goodmayes station was opened on 8 February 1901 by the Great Eastern Railway (GER) on the Great Eastern Main Line out of London Liverpool Street. The station once had an extensive shunting yard for goods traffic, but this fell into disuse following the Beeching cuts to the railway system in 1963, and was eventually dismantled. The site of the yard stood on the area between the present track and the High Road and has been replaced by a supermarket, other shops and housing. There was also a large yard area between the existing track area and Kinfauns Road. This yard area went as far as Chadwell Heath.
The typical Monday-Saturday off-peak service is six trains per hour in each direction between Liverpool Street and Shenfield, reduced on Sundays to four per hour in each direction:
|TfL Rail||London Liverpool Street - Stratford - Maryland - Forest Gate - Manor Park - Ilford - Seven Kings - Goodmayes - Chadwell Heath - Romford - Gidea Park - Harold Wood - Brentwood - Shenfield||Class 315, Class 345||6x per hour|
In 2017 new Class 345 trains began entering operation as the new Crossrail service partially opened. The four platforms at Goodmayes will be extended from their current length of 184 metres (201 yd) to accommodate the new trains, which will be over 200 metres (220 yd) long once extended to nine carriages. The station will also receive three new lifts providing access to all platforms, improved lighting and signage, help points, and new ticket machines and gates within a refurbished ticket hall.
